How to Crop your video Made by Synchro-Kun So, you got this perfect AMV, and you want it cropped. Meaning, adding a black letterobx to cover up subtitles and make it look more professional. What good does cropping do, anyway?Cropping does: -Look professionl and a lot better. -covers up unwanted stuff, such as time clock and subtitles. -Widescreen looks better. -Prevent noobs from stealing clips from your AMV. So, how do you crop? There are some very simple steps to crop an AMV. Let me show you how. Since this process requires you to go through AVI conversion, it is best you have codecs such as MPEG, DivX, or XviD, or your AVI file will be ridiculously big. Also, if you simply can't get the hang of this, I am avaiable to cropping, as long as you send me a PM of a link to your AMV. I will then upload it to your favored uploader and then send you a PM back. Just please, don't use MegaUpload. 1) Get a video converter than allows you convert video files. I uses SUPER Video Converter , which is costly. Best is to try around Google for a bit, or head to www.videohelp.com to know how to. Also, apparently, as Riku recommended me, Blaze Media Pro appears to be free of charge and can be a converter. 2) Convert the file to AVI from whichever format you have. (Most people probably have .wmv.) 3) Get VirtualDub. Save it, extract the file using Winrar or Winzip, and open up the file vdub.exe or VirtualDub.exe. 4) File ---> And Open your video file. (I am going to be using Trigger-Kun's AMV for this example.) 5) Go to Video ---> Filters and press ADD. Add the filter 'resize'. 6) Ignore the sizes for now, and then press OK. 7) Press CROPPING. 8) Type in numbers in the Y1 and Y2 offsets to completely cover up subtitles and suit your needs. It is best you have the two numbers equal, or if you already have scenes in your AMV that is letterbox (such as scenes from movies), you will have the scene one part up, and not centered. Browse through the timeline drag to see you have everything covered up, remember the numbers, and then press OK. 9) Press Configure. Here is the Math part. You have to subtract the total number of the two offsets you just make from the height size. For example, if you have a 640x480 video and you typed in 76 for the two offsets, you have to subtract 2(75), or 150 from 480. And so, determining on your cropping, your height will differ. If you are not sure what to do, just mess around the height a bit, click preview until the video looks alright to you. 10) Check 'Expand frame and letterbox image', and type in the video's original width and height. Preview a bit to check is your video alright. 11) OK everything, then Video ---> Compression. Choose a codec that fits you best. 12) After that, File ---> Save AVI, and save your AVI. 13) After that, if you want, imort it into WMM, save it with .wmv, just so people without codecs can watch your AMV too. There, you just cropped your AMV! ^ ^ |
